Do you know the difference between Remedial and Relaxation Massage?
One of the most asked questions we get as a Remedial Massage Therapists is, “what is a remedial massage and how is it different to relaxation massage?”
The biggest difference is that a remedial massage is performed by a Remedial Massage Therapist, and while we can still do a relaxation massage, if that is what our client is requesting or requiring on the day, as Remedial Massage Therapists, we have been through more intense studying. We’ve put in the hours. Learning about the body, how it moves, and how to recognise and treat clients with more specific conditions or needs. Often, we’ve also moved into one form of specialisation or another.
A relaxation massage tends to be a full body massage with the main goal to de-stress, to relax the body and mind.
A remedial massage is usually designed with a specific outcome in mind, while looking at the body as a whole. Treatments are tailored to each individual client with the use of techniques including, but not limited to, trigger point therapy, deep tissue massage, PNF stretching, myofascial release and manual lymphatic drainage.
